A topic that gets overlooked during Divorce is Grocery Shopping.
Of course we all have to get groceries on a regular basis but ever consider how routine your shopping has become?
Whether you are shopping just for two or for an entire family you typically have your grocery schedule on auto pilot.
But this simple weekly task changes dramatically in the event of a divorce.
If you are sharing custody of your kids then half the time your fridge needs to be full with food they like and the other half of time you can function on just the food you need for yourself. How often are you left with food to throw out because the kids have left for your ex’s home?
What about when you are used to cooking for two? How do you get comfortable with cooking for just yourself?
A few tips to consider when adjusting your grocery schedule….
– Consider shopping on or the day before the kids arrive so that the majority of food is consumed when they are with you.
– Take your kids with you when you shop so they understand what you’ve purchased and are excited to eat during their time with you.
– Try buying one meal you know all of your kids will enjoy instead of buying a variety of meals to please each kid
– Make leftovers when cooking for your kids and freeze them for you for the rest of the week
– If you have too much food, invite a friend for dinner and use the time to catch up socially
– Pick up only what you need for that day – we recognize daily shopping is time consuming.
And remember, when in doubt there is always uber eats and skip the dishes if you are too tired to shop or cook!
