Why is it when we need sleep the most we can’t ever access it?
The stress of divorce has many of you restless throughout the night thinking of everything from child support to living alone to when and if you will ever date again!
It can be a less than peaceful night when these thoughts keep creeping into your mind late into the night.
But we all know that sleep is the best medicine for thinking clearly and rationally so we really do need it most during this time.

Apps – with a quick download there are great new apps out there that will keep you calm and help monitor and relax your breathing
Exercise – literally the best way to tire out your body and clear your mind so try to incorporate any form in your daily and weekly life
Schedules – Put an actual time out on your divorce during the night! Schedule the time to think about in in the middle of the day when you can confront it head on and with a steady heart and mind! Then give yourself the night off knowing you will get back to it at the next scheduled time.
Hobby – Pick up a hobby to distract you – your phone houses a zillion different games- from golf or tennis to solitaire, candy crush or word search, start a new tv show to binge watch, get a puzzle or pick up knitting – these hobbies are great for night time as they are relaxing and typically put the brain at ease.
Natural Sleeping aids – talk to your doctor about the best one for you!
Laughter – Watch a comedian or a comedy show and try to add some levity into your life! You will benefit from the balance.
Journaling – Start writing your thoughts – your stream of conscious may help get thoughts out of your head and onto the paper allowing your mind to breathe.
Bedtime Rituals – look for calming rituals before bedtime like hot long showers or baths and reading.
