People often use this expression when they hear you are going through a divorce.
They mean well but it often comes across trite and meaningless.
When it’s taking forever to finalize and formalize your Divorce you may find this piece of advice rather annoying.
What does it even mean? Be in the moment? The awful moment of divorce?
Do people not understand that you want this behind you so you can move on?
Do they not get that you can’t even get through an hour of your life without thinking of your divorce?
Actually what people are telling you is to slow down and take a deep breath.
Your divorce is all consuming but it won’t get resolved in one day, one week or even one month.
Unfortunately it takes time to finalize a divorce and so you can get as anxious and consumed as you want, it won’t speed up the process.
Learning to find some bits of happiness within each day will help you make it through.
Try to find a half hour in each day that isn’t about your divorce.
Taking it one day at a time is a way of encouragement and people’s reaction to believing you will get through it – they are saying they have faith in you!
Not sure how to “take it one day at a time”? Talk with others going through a divorce in our forum or in our chat room for ideas on what you can do.
