The approach which Dr. Keelan uses to help clients is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). In this approach, he helps clients to address aspects of their lives which affect them negatively by making changes in their thinking and behaviour. In this manner, he works with his clients to help them take steps to target current and past stressful events in their lives, do more activities which help them to cope with stress, take care of their physical well-being and learn to perceive events with a balanced perspective. This approach helps his clients to manage their moods so that they can lead emotionally fulfilling and enjoyable lives while coping effectively with negative events which they come across.
He is a certified therapist with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies, — organizations whose members have been assessed for proficiency in CBT. Dr. Keelan helps his clients succeed in overcoming challenges like divorce by using this approach to overcome challenges in his own life. These challenges include athletic achievements like completing the Boston Marathon and the Ironman triathlon along with attaining a black belt in karate. He enjoys using this approach to help his clients succeed in overcoming challenges in their personal lives.
